2022 Limited Release Heathcote Shiraz Viognier

2022 Limited Release Heathcote Shiraz Viognier

2022 Limited Release Heathcote Shiraz Viognier

Sourced from the Merindoc vineyard in the cooler southern foothills of the Heathcote region, this wine showcases classic Shiraz characters for which this region is known and has been combined with Viognier to create a generous and lasting wine. Upfront smoked meats and charcuterie on the nose with pops of red licorice and juniper. The palate is rich with ripe forest berries and a biltong backbone. The tannins are not shy and provide texture and grip on the finish. This wine is best enjoyed by the fire, today or in 10 years’ time.

Other Notes
The 2022 season started with a very wet and variable spring, resulting in poor flowering and consequently reduced yields across most sites. However, the dry summer months to follow provided perfect ripening conditions that generated concentration and striking flavours across all varieties

Winemaking
Winemaker Notes
• Handpicked Shiraz was divided in half and transferred to stainless steel fermenters. • One half included 30% whole bunches and the other was co-fermented with Viognier using indigenous yeast. • The grapes were kept on skins for 14 days before being pressed to a mixture of old and new French oak barrels where the wine remained for 13 months

This wine is typical of Heathcote, with power and depth, a new venture and limited release for Ten Minutes by Tractor. A great comparison to our Merricks Shiraz Viognier, the warmer climate of Heathcote produces a completely different, more brooding style of wine.
